Chennai: Every season, the IPL excites cricket fans, and MS Dhoni is mostly responsible for this. After retiring internationally from cricket in 2020, Dhoni now just takes part in the IPL. He is participating in the 18th annual competition this time. Dhoni and his team, Chennai Super Kings, will have their debut game against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23. Dhoni made a big announcement about his future and retirement before the season started.
There has been continuous conjecture over whether this would be Dhoni’s last IPL season for the past few years. Similar rumours surfaced last year; Dhoni rejected them at the conclusion of the season. Dhoni, 43, is the oldest player in the IPL this year; once more, the issue of whether this will be his last season emerges. Dhoni has taken care of this, though, before the season began.
MS Dhoni made a major public declaration about his retirement in an interview with JioHotstar. His comments suggest that he still intends to participate in the IPL for some time. Emphasising his close relationship with Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni said he could stay playing for the team as long as he wants. “As long as I want, I can play for Chennai Super Kings,” he said. That is my franchise. CSK will drag me and carry me even if I use a wheelchair.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, also commented on Dhoni’s future in the league. Drawing a resemblance with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, he said Dhoni has many more years to play in the IPL. Gaikwad said, “At the age of 50, Sachin Tendulkar was performing remarkably well. Dhoni seems to have a lot more years remaining in him.” Tendulkar recently competed in the International Masters League and performed quite brilliantly.
