Lucknow:Regarding dogs, it is not a secret that former cricketer MS Dhoni is fond of a pet dog, as he often shares posts expressing his love for his pet dogs. But when it comes to the IPL 2025 contest between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 14 in Lucknow, Dhoni was spotted playing with a dog and in a different avatar — a robotic dog.

It happened before the start of the game. And while Dhoni seemed to be playing with the robotic dog, fans and social media quickly noticed the fun moment. During IPL 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will use a robotic dog to take pictures of the field and serve the toss coin.

There is a video that is viral on social media; in that video, Dhoni interacts with the robotic dog by lifting and dropping it and starting to play. After that, a photo came out where Dhoni was holding the robotic dog in his hands, looking relaxed and exploring the new form of technology on the ground.

While the robotic dog looks fun to use, it does have some functionality in the game aside from having fun. This IPL season, it served as a promotional tool. A robot is responsible for bringing the toss coin to the team captains. It adds a part about the future of cricket with such innovation in trying to use technology.

But talking about its prices, it’s a bit expensive a spec for a robotic dog. In the market, the BCCI robotic dog costs between ₹3.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh.

Dhoni’s team, CSK, went on to win the match, beating LSG, captained by Rishabh Pant. After their playful interaction, Dhoni became the hero of the match. However, fans on social media couldn’t help but notice the humorous bits with the robotic dog, which provided a touch of levity to an otherwise thrilling match day.
