New Delhi: Delhi Police has been placed on alert ahead of the proposed June 6 protest at Jantar Mantar, even as authorities confirmed that no formal request seeking permission for the demonstration had been received till Friday. The planned protest, spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), is expected to draw students, youth groups and activists from different parts of the country over issues related to examination controversies and education reforms.

According to Delhi Police officials, security agencies are closely monitoring the situation and have prepared contingency plans to maintain law and order in the national capital. Officials stated that adequate police personnel could be deployed in sensitive locations if required, particularly around Jantar Mantar, central Delhi and key transit points.

The proposed protest has been called by the Cockroach Janta Party, a social media driven movement that has gained significant traction among students and young people. The organisation has been demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in national level examinations, including NEET and other recruitment and entrance tests. It has also sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

A major point of contention has been the issue of police permission. Delhi Police officials said no application seeking approval for the protest had been submitted as of June 5. Existing guidelines generally require organisers to seek permission in advance for public demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.

The organisers, however, have indicated that they intend to approach the authorities on June 6 itself. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party spokespersons have argued that they will seek permission after reaching Delhi, a move that has triggered debate over procedural requirements and crowd management concerns.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Friday declined an urgent hearing on a petition seeking preventive directions regarding the proposed protest. The plea had requested measures to regulate crowds and maintain public order in view of the expected gathering.

Student groups supporting the protest have alleged that authorities are attempting to discourage participation, while police have maintained that their focus remains on ensuring public safety and preventing any disruption. Reports from the ground indicated that Jantar Mantar remained largely quiet on Friday, with security agencies continuing to assess the situation ahead of the scheduled demonstration.

With thousands of supporters expected to closely follow developments on June 6, the focus will remain on whether organisers receive official permission and how authorities manage one of the most talked about youth protests in recent months.
