Dehradun: In a heartbreaking tragedy, four people, including three members of a family from Saharanpur, lost their lives after a speeding container truck overturned and crushed their car in Dehradun. Miraculously, a six-year-old boy survived the horrific crash that wiped out his immediate family.
The fatal accident took place in the Mohabbewala area of Dehradun. According to local authorities, the heavy vehicle was overloaded with fertiliser when it lost control and tipped over onto the passing car, completely flattening the smaller vehicle.
The deceased have been identified as Vishesh Kapoor (38), his mother Kiran Kapoor (63), his wife Nisha Kapoor (38), and their driver, Neeraj. The sole survivor of the crash, six-year-old Maher Kapoor, the son of Vishesh and Nisha, was safely rescued from the mangled remains of the car.
According to family sources, the victims were residents of Gokul Dham Colony in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The family had set out from Saharanpur at around 4:00 PM on Wednesday. They were travelling to Dehradun to visit Vishesh Kapoor’s younger brother, Dipesh Kapoor.
The tragedy struck just as they had reached the city limits. Upon receiving information about the crash, local police, fire brigade, and emergency rescue teams rushed to the spot. Rescue operations proved to be extremely challenging due to the immense weight of the fertiliser-laden container resting on the crushed car.
“The vehicle was completely mangled under the heavy container. Rescue teams had to use gas cutters to cut through the doors and the roof of the car to pull out the occupants,” an official involved in the rescue operation stated. While Maher was pulled out safely, the other four occupants succumbed to their severe injuries on the spot.
The news of the accident has sent shockwaves through their neighbourhood in Saharanpur, with a pall of gloom descending over Gokul Dham Colony. Relatives and neighbours have been left devastated by the sudden and tragic loss. Local police have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident, and authorities are assessing the negligence involved regarding the overloaded truck.
