Patna: JD(U) MLA from Mokama Anant Singh is facing fresh legal trouble after the Bihar government handed over the investigation of a viral video case to the Criminal Investigation Department. The case is linked to an FIR registered in Gopalganj after a video allegedly showed people dancing with weapons during a public programme.

According to reports, the FIR was lodged at Mirganj police station in Gopalganj under the Arms Act. Anant Singh and eight others have been named in the case. The matter has now been transferred from Gopalganj police to the state CID, which will examine the case afresh and look into key questions related to the weapons seen in the viral video.

Police sources said the CID will investigate whether the weapons visible in the video were licensed or illegal. The agency will also examine the circumstances in which the weapons were allegedly displayed during the programme and who all were directly involved in the incident.

The case relates to an event held in Semrao village under the Mirganj police station area earlier this month. Reports said Anant Singh had attended the programme along with Bhojpuri singer Gunjan Singh at the residence of a person named Guddu Rai. A dance programme was organised there, and later a video surfaced on social media in which some people were allegedly seen waving weapons while dancing.

Soon after the video went viral, police took note of the matter and registered case number 247 of 2026 at Mirganj police station. The case has remained in public discussion because it involves a sitting MLA and serious allegations under the Arms Act.

According to the report, Gopalganj police had almost reached the stage of completing the investigation in a scientific manner and was preparing to file a chargesheet before the court. However, the transfer of the case to the CID means the probe will now be examined at a higher level.

Anant Singh’s bail plea is scheduled to be heard on May 30 before the MP MLA court. The hearing will be conducted by Judge Rajendra Pandey.

The development has added a new political and legal dimension to the case. While the final outcome will depend on the investigation and court proceedings, the CID probe is expected to bring greater scrutiny to the viral video, the weapons shown in it and the role of those named in the FIR.
