New Delhi: The CBSE has dropped chapters on Non-Alignment Movement, Cold War era, rise of Islamic empires in Afro-Asian territories, chronicles of Mughal courts and Industrial Revolution from the Class XI and XII political science syllabus.
The Board has also taken off excerpts from translations of two Urdu poems by Faiz Ahmed Faiz from the section ‘Religion, Communalism and Politics – Communalism, Secular State’; chapters on ‘Democracy and diversity’; and ‘impact of globalisation on agriculture’ from a chapter on ‘Food Security’ from Class X Social Science syllabus, India Today reported.
Asked why so many topics were excluded from the curriculum, officials said it was part of syllabus rationalisation process, in line with NCERT recommendations.
A controversy had erupted in 2020 when CBSE stated that chapters on demonetization, federalism, citizenship, nationalism and secularism in Class XI political science textbook won’t be considered while assessing students.
The topics were restored in the 2021-22 academic session and remain a part of CBSE syllabus.
The syllabus shared with CBSE schools suggests that the Central board is likely to revert to a single exam format from 2022-23 onwards.
The decision to conduct two Board exams this time was taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
