CBI Cracks Down on NEET Paper Leak in Patna, Arrests Four AIIMS Students

Patna: In a significant development in the NEET paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four students from AIIMS Patna. The students, Chandan Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Karan Jain, all third-year MBBS students from the 2021 batch, and Kumar Sanu, a second-year student, were detained and interrogated by the CBI earlier today. They have been accused of solving the leaked NEET examination papers.

The CBI had recently apprehended Pankaj alias Aditya from Patna, who allegedly stole the NEET paper and handed it over to the four AIIMS students for solving. During the operation, the CBI confiscated mobile phones and laptops from the arrested students.

Investigators conducted thorough searches of the students’ hostel rooms. The operation follows the arrest of Pankaj from Patna and his accomplice, Raju, from Hazaribagh, who aided in the paper theft.

AIIMS Patna Director GK Paul confirmed the CBI’s action, stating that the arrests were made in the presence of the dean, hostel warden, and the director’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

The CBI, which is investigating alleged irregularities in the NEET paper leak case, has registered six FIRs related to the incident in Bihar. Additionally, FIRs have been filed in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, concerning cases of cheating and impersonation during the NEET examination.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET-UG exam on May 5, 2024. Over 23.33 lakh students appeared for the exam at 4,750 centres across 571 cities, including 14 foreign cities. Following the announcement of the results, concerns about the integrity of the examination have been raised, leading to ongoing hearings in the Supreme Court.

As the investigation unfolds, the CBI’s efforts aim to address the widespread malpractice and ensure the integrity of the NEET examination process
