Jaipur: Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan, was put on alert due to a bomb threat at the Rajasthan Metro station and Rajasthan Metro trains. The threat, which was received on Saturday through an email to Jaipur Metro’s official ID, said, and I quote, “The blasts were part of Operation Sindoor [which is also the name of India’s attack on Pak territory]. No station was named in the email, but within hours, authorities had mobilised and turned metro stations throughout the city into heavily protected areas. Police and security agencies have been on high alert after the incident, which took place on Friday at a time of heightened tension with Pakistan.

Security Measures and Immediate Responses

Jaipur Metro officials informed the police about the threatening email and immediately took safety measures to protect the metro network in the city. Intensive search operations were conducted at key stations like Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar. They also deployed bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) personnel to inspect areas. Several stations were evacuated as a security measure, while troops were deployed to all metro facilities.

The email also refers to Operation Sindoor, a brief but intense Indian military action directed against terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This has led to speculation about whether the attack motivated the threat. While the threat did not detail a specific station, officials have taken it seriously given the current state of the world.

Citywide security overhaul

Metro stations, which are usually bustling with activity, have been transformed into military-style fortified zones across Jaipur. Armed security personnel inspect the entire network, from platforms to trains, to prevent unauthorised activities. Police sources said that because the e-mail does not specify a specific location, a general sweep has taken place across all stations.

The presence of multiple agencies underlines the threat’s seriousness. ATS teams, bomb squads, and dog squads thoroughly inspect every corner of the metro system. The police have reiterated that they are taking no chances due to cross-border tensions that erupted after the Indian army moved in.

Context of the threat

In recent months, Jaipur has faced several bomb scares, but lately the city has been on high alert. On May 8, 2025, a bomb threat email targeting the city’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium and mentioning Operation Sindoor led to a massive police operation to search the stadium premises. Earlier incidents, such as bomb threats to schools and hospitals earlier this year, have kept authorities tense. These incidents are many located on foreign servers or connected to Pakistan-based groups. These incidents are not isolated, and their repetition increases concerns that threats could lead to widespread public safety disruptions and panic.

The references to Operation Sindoor in the mail indicate a possible ‘retaliatory’ motive, as it caused major losses to Pakistan-backed terror groups. Authorities have not confirmed the threat’s validity or sender, and investigators are tracing the email, the statement said.

Authorities are on high alert

Top police officials oversee the security arrangements with metro authorities and other agencies to ensure a speedy response. However, the metro continues to implement enhanced security measures, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, this incident poses a significant challenge to maintaining security in Jaipur, a populous city that attracts many tourists. The police and security forces are committed to protecting all residents and guests. Additional information is being collected and action taken to eliminate any threats.
