BJP Sweeps Gujarat Local Body Elections, Congress Suffers Major Setback

Ahmedabad: With a clear win in the Gujarat local body elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has greatly lessened the Congress party’s position all throughout the state. With success in 60 of 68 municipalities as well as all three taluka panchayats, the BJP has wrested control of 15 municipalities from Congress.

Congress won only one municipality, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won two.Three taluka panchayats, 68 municipalities, and the Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) held elections on February 16.

The State Election Commission has listed 213 candidates who won without any opposition. 5,084 candidates in all fought for the local body elections.Out of 60 seats distributed across 15 wards in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation elections, the BJP secured 48. Apart from JMC, elections were held for three taluka panchayats—Gandhinagar, Kapadvanj, and Kathla—as well as 68 nagar palikas.

The BJP took home all three taluka panchayats and sixty nagar palikas among these.The Congress party only prevailed in the Salaya municipality in the Devbhumi Dwarka district. From the BJP, the Samajwadi Party deftly seized Kutiyana.

Prime Minister Modi thanked Gujarat’s citizens for their consistent support of the BJP. PM Modi said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that the bond between Gujarat and the BJP is unshakeable and getting closer. He also praised the party officials for their diligence and efforts that produced this overwhelming triumph.
