Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a revised schedule for India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which will now commence from July 27 instead of the previously planned date of July 26. This tour marks Gautam Gambhir’s inaugural assignment as head coach of the Indian team.
According to the updated schedule released by BCCI, all three T20 matches of the series will be held at Pallekele Stadium on July 27, July 28, and July 30. The ODI series, comprising three matches, will take place at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 2, August 4, and August 7.
The match timings remain unchanged as per BCCI’s announcement. The T20 matches will commence at 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST), while the ODI matches are scheduled to start at 2:30 PM IST.
Although the squad for the tour has not been finalized, reports suggest that Hardik Pandya is likely to lead the T20 team, while KL Rahul will captain the ODI team. The last bilateral series between India and Sri Lanka took place in 2021 under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, where India won the ODI series but lost the T20 series 1-2.
Despite speculation, key players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are reportedly not expected to be part of this tour. The BCCI aims to field a competitive team for the series against Sri Lanka, focusing on building strength in the absence of some senior players.
