Thane: Riya Barde, also known by her screen names Banna Shaikh and Aarohi Barde, a well-known actress from Bangladesh, has been arrested along with her family by the Thane Crime Branch, Maharashtra. The actress and her family are accused of living in India under false identities and forged documents.
Riya, who has gained recognition in the film industry under various aliases, was apprehended in Ulhasnagar by a team from the Thane Crime Branch, and subsequently handed over to the local Hill Line police. She faces charges including forgery and fraud as outlined under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The case against Riya includes her mother Anjali Barde, also known as Ruby Shaikh, her father Arvind Barde, her sister Ritu, also known as Moni Shaikh, and her brother Ravindra, also known as Riyaz Shaikh. The investigation has unveiled that despite their established life in India, the family’s origins trace back to Bangladesh, with fraudulent documents crafted to mask their true nationality.
Anjali Barde, Riya’s mother, allegedly married Arvind Barde, a native of Amravati, as part of a scheme to obtain Indian citizenship documents for herself and her children. The family purportedly used falsified birth certificates among other documents to secure Indian passports.
The arrest follows an investigation triggered by a tip-off from Riya’s acquaintance, Prashant Mishra, who grew suspicious of her claims of Indian origin. Following his complaint, police scrutiny of Riya’s documents revealed the deception, leading to the family’s arrest.
This case has cast a shadow on Riya’s film career, where she was actively involved with several production houses and appeared in numerous movies. Previously, Riya had encountered legal troubles when she was arrested by Mumbai Police under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act related to a prostitution case.
Authorities have confirmed that Riya’s parents currently reside in Qatar, further complicating the family’s legal entanglements. As the investigation continues, the film industry and fans alike are left reeling from the revelations surrounding the actress’s concealed past.
