Mumbai: Akshay Kumar’s latest film, ‘Sarfira,’ is set to hit theaters on July 12. For Kumar, who has been seeking a box office success for the past three years, ‘Sarfira’ might just be the breakthrough he needs. Industry expectations suggest that the film could significantly boost his fortunes.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, speaking to Bollywood Hungama, noted that ‘Sarfira’ hasn’t seen much promotion and there’s been minimal buzz around it. However, he described it as a word-of-mouth film. Adarsh drew a parallel to ‘Soorarai Pottru’ (2020), a critically acclaimed film that won a National Award. He expressed confidence that ‘Sarfira’ would also be a faithful remake, highlighting the interesting casting of Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, who are reuniting after a long hiatus.
Raj Bansal, owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, commented on the film’s prospects, attributing its potential success to Kumar’s star power. Bansal observed that while the film hasn’t generated significant pre-release excitement, it is expected to perform better than Kumar’s recent releases, ‘Selfie’ (2023) and ‘Mission Raniganj’ (2023). He predicted an opening day collection of 5 to 6 crores, noting positive feedback from Mumbai.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan shared his optimism about ‘Sarfira,’ describing it as an inspirational film. He recalled Kumar’s pre-Covid successes with films like ‘Mission Mangal’ (2019), ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ (2017), and ‘Pad Man’ (2018), which received critical acclaim. Mohan believes ‘Sarfira’ is in a similar vein and will appeal to family audiences, who have been returning to theaters in large numbers this year.
With mixed but hopeful projections, ‘Sarfira’ could indeed be a pivotal release for Akshay Kumar, potentially marking his return to box office glory.
