Aarogya Setu Helped Identify 650 Hotspots: NITI Aayog

New Delhi: Aarogya Setu app has helped authorities detect more than 650 hotspots and over 300 “emerging hotspots”, which could have been missed otherwise, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Sunday.

The mobile tracking app which uses GPS and Bluetooth to fast-track contact tracing, has seen over 96 million registrations.

According to the government, the app has helped decode “whom to test” and “where to test more”.

“For instance, in Maharashtra, the engine identified over 60 hotspots in 18 districts. Across the nation, the engine predicted about 130 hotspots at the sub-post office level between April 13 and April 20. Later, these forecasted hotspots were declared as “real hotspots” by the Union Health Ministry some 3 to 17 days after being alerted by Aarogya Setu,” explained Kant while speaking to ANI.

He also said that the app gives accurate forecast of hotspots and it is also preventing the origin of newer hotspots.

He revealed around 3.4 million have self-declared unwell out of 69 million people. Health authorities have reached to people with two or more symptoms of COVID-19. More than 16,000 people have been followed up with tele-consultation by doctors.

Around 12,500 users of the app have tested positive so far.
