New Delhi: As many as 10 candidates with rape charges are contesting the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 18 across the country, an analysis has revealed.
A report prepared by the Association for Democratic Reforms stated that 251 out of 1590 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.
“Out of them, 10 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women such as rape (IPC Section-376), assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section-354) etc”.
Among the candidates who have declared criminal cases, 16 out of 51 candidates are from BJP, 23 out of 53 are from Congress, 16 out of 80 candidates are from BSP, 3 out of 22 candidates are from AIADMK and 11 out of 24 candidates are from DMK.
The analysis also revealed that there are 423 candidates who have assets worth Rs one crore and more. The average asset per candidate contesting phase II of the polls is Rs 3.90 crores.
Among the major parties, 46 out of 53 candidates are from Congress who have declared assets over Rs one crore, 45 out of 51 candidates are from BJP, 23 out of 24 candidates are from DMK, 22 candidates are from AIADMK and 21 out of 80 candidates are from BSP.
