Patna: Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker has found herself in the middle of a fresh controversy after a police complaint was filed against her in Patna, Bihar, over alleged derogatory remarks concerning Rajput women and the historical practice of Jauhar.
The complaint was lodged at the Kotwali police station on Wednesday by Krishna Kumar Singh, also known as Kallu, a member of the Bihar BJP state executive committee. He was accompanied by social worker Chandan Singh.
In his application, the BJP leader accused the actress of using offensive and sarcastic language while speaking about the Hindu community, specifically targeting Rajput women. The complaint alleges that Bhasker’s statements mocked the sacrifices of historical figures like Rani Padmavati and the tradition of Jauhar, thereby deeply hurting the religious and social sentiments of the Rajput community.
According to Singh, he became aware of the actress’s controversial remarks through news channels and social media platforms earlier on Wednesday. The comments have also reportedly drawn severe backlash from Rajput outfits, including the Karni Sena.
The complainant has urged the Patna police to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the matter. Singh demanded that the police secure the video clips circulating on social media and news channels as evidence, and immediately register an FIR against the actress under appropriate legal sections if the allegations are validated. He also expressed concerns that such statements could incite social unrest and communal tension.
Meanwhile, the controversy has triggered political reactions in the state. Downplaying the incident, Bihar Congress leader Dr. Snehashish Vardhan stated that the actress’s comments should not be given undue importance or attention. On her part, Bhasker has reportedly defended her stance, clarifying in subsequent statements that she never called Rani Padmavati a coward, but was rather questioning the glorification of certain historical practices.
