Patna: Yielding to intense pressure from protesting competitive exam aspirants, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) hastily released the official notification for the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-4.0) on Tuesday evening.
The notification, which announces a massive recruitment drive for 32,388 teaching posts, came just hours after thousands of students launched an indefinite hunger strike at Patna’s Gardanibagh. According to the commission, the application portal for prospective candidates will officially open on September 1.
Led by student leader Dilip Kumar, the agitated candidates converged on Tuesday morning, drawing parallels to recent massive student demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Their primary demand was the immediate release of the recruitment advertisement, which Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari had previously promised would be issued in July.
The aspirants had issued a stern five-day ultimatum, warning of a direct siege of the state legislative assembly if their demands were unmet. Eager to prevent the situation from snowballing into a larger law-and-order crisis, the state administration sprang into action, ensuring the notification was published by the evening.
While the rapid release of the TRE-4.0 notification is being hailed as a significant victory for Bihar’s unemployed youth, the protesters assert that their agitation is far from over.
“This is just the first step; the real battle is still pending,” the candidates cautioned, emphasizing their demand for written rules and operational transparency over verbal assurances.
The protesting students are continuing to press the government on several other critical fronts. Their pending demands include the implementation of single-phase examinations, the elimination of contractual weightage in the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), and the immediate clearance of the 18-year backlog in state librarian recruitments.
