Ayodhya: In a significant development regarding the Ram Mandir donation theft case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Home Department has given a clean chit to Champat Rai, the former General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

According to the SIT’s final investigative report, Rai’s name has been officially excluded from the list of the accused. However, Anil Mishra, another prominent figure who stepped down alongside Rai when the probe was initially launched, remains under the scope of the investigation.

The SIT report formally charges eight individuals for their alleged involvement in the pilferage of temple offerings. The accused have been identified as Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Ramashankar Yadav, alias Tinnu.

Following his resignation amid the inquiry, Champat Rai relocated to the Teerth Kshetra Bhawan in Ayodhya’s Ramkot area, where he has been in solitary retreat since June 7. He has embarked on a four-month ‘Chaturmas Sadhana,’ which is scheduled to conclude on November 21. During this period, Rai is reportedly dedicating his time to chanting Ram mantras, reciting the Ramcharitmanas, and observing a strict six-hour vow of silence daily.

Meanwhile, a major administrative overhaul is underway as the search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust reaches its final leg. The extensive recruitment drive initially drew an overwhelming 5,585 applications from across the country, with 3,877 candidates submitting detailed resumes for scrutiny.

Following a rigorous interview process, authorities have shortlisted a final panel of three names. According to official sources, two prominent Uttar Pradesh bureaucrats—Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and Rajesh Pandey—are currently the frontrunners for the coveted post.
