New Delhi: Prominent social activist Sonam Wangchuk has strongly rebuked online critics who questioned his decision to end his 26 day hunger strike. The activist had been protesting against the NEET paper leak scandal in solidarity with aspiring medical students. Following a wave of trolling on social media, Wangchuk released a candid video message expressing deep anguish over the uncharitable public reaction.
Visibly frustrated, Wangchuk asked his detractors what more he needed to endure to prove his dedication to the cause. He stated it is a shame on a country where citizens question the integrity of someone who starved for nearly a month, rather than focusing on the corruption ruining the future of the youth. He reiterated that his fast was called off only after the central government provided concrete written assurances regarding sweeping examination reforms.
The backlash also drew a sharp response from his wife. Taking a stand against the online negativity, Gitanjali lashed out at the insensitive remarks flooding social media platforms. She urged critics to show basic human decency and remember the severe physical toll a prolonged fast takes on a person.
The controversy surrounding the medical entrance examination continues to keep the national political atmosphere highly charged. The student protests, prominently backed by the Cockroach Janata Party, remain active on the ground. The central demand of the agitating groups remains the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Addressing these persistent demands, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale recently weighed in on the political standoff. He remarked on the situation by suggesting that a high profile resignation alone would not resolve the deep rooted issues within the testing system.
Meanwhile, political support for the protesting youth continues to grow. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has publicly backed the students. He issued a stern message to the central government, demanding that authorities must not use state machinery to suppress the democratic voices of young citizens seeking justice.
Despite the government initiating a massive administrative cleanup within the national testing agency, the focus of the movement faces new challenges. The genuine fight for transparency in the education sector is now simultaneously battling political mudslinging and unwarranted online toxicity.
