New Delhi: A viral video showing an AC first class railway coupe decorated with flowers for a honeymoon couple has sparked widespread public outcry, prompting the Indian Railways to take swift disciplinary action. The footage, which gained massive traction on social media, showed the interior of a train cabin elaborately decked with flowers and decorative items, a practice strictly prohibited under railway norms.
The video surfaced on various social media platforms, showing the cabin of a premium train prepared to welcome a couple celebrating their honeymoon. The clip depicted flowers draped over the berths and cabin walls, turning a standard railway compartment into a decorative space. The display immediately drew sharp criticism from internet users, who questioned the misuse of public property and the lack of oversight by the railway staff on duty.
Responding to the viral outrage, the Railway administration launched an internal investigation to identify how such an unauthorized decoration was permitted inside the train. Preliminary findings confirmed that the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) in charge of the coach had allegedly facilitated the arrangement, violating safety and operational protocols.
Taking a firm stance against the incident, the Indian Railways has suspended the involved TTE with immediate effect. Railway officials stated that the decoration of passenger coaches by staff members is a violation of the conduct rules, as it not only disrupts the professional environment but also potentially compromises safety standards and hygiene.
“We have taken cognizance of the viral video. The TTE responsible for the coach has been placed under suspension, and further departmental inquiry is underway,” a railway spokesperson confirmed.
The incident has reignited a debate regarding the conduct of railway staff and the maintenance of discipline on premium train services. Frequent travellers and social media commentators have raised concerns about how such decorations were allowed inside a secure and restricted train area without being stopped by other security or maintenance personnel.
While the suspension of the staff member is being viewed as a necessary step, the incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by the Indian Railways in ensuring that staff adhere to strict professional guidelines. The department has reiterated that all passengers are expected to travel under uniform conditions, and any deviation that provides preferential or non-standard treatment will be met with strict action.
