New Delhi: Popular social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a brief but widespread technical outage on Monday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to access their feeds or log into their accounts. The disruption, which impacted both the mobile application and the desktop website version, led to a sudden surge in user complaints before services were gradually restored to normalcy.

According to data compiled by Downdetector, a prominent real-time outage monitoring website, the technical glitch manifested abruptly around 7:30 PM IST. The tracking platform reported that the volume of user complaints escalated from just two isolated reports to 336 within minutes. By 7:35 PM, the number of registered complaints spiked dramatically to 1,758, indicating a rapid and systemic disruption across the network architecture.

Affected users reported a variety of operational failures during the brief period of disruption. While a significant portion of subscribers found themselves entirely locked out of their accounts due to login failures, others who were already logged in noted that their primary timelines and news feeds had stopped updating. Additional complaints included an inability to publish new posts, persistent server connection errors, and intermittent failures while attempting to load specific web pages on the platform.

The spike in reports on Downdetector serves as an indicator of the scale of the issue. The monitoring service clarified that its metrics are derived directly from individual user submissions and independent data aggregation channels across the internet. Consequently, while the figures reflect a substantial surge in user frustration within a window of fewer than ten minutes, the data represents a broader trend of impact rather than the exact count of individual accounts affected globally.

The technical team at X managed to contain the issue relatively quickly, ensuring the platform did not suffer a prolonged blackout. Within a short duration, core functionalities were successfully restored, allowing users to refresh their timelines and resumes posting without further errors.

At the time of reporting, X has not issued any formal statement or technical explanation detailing the root cause of the brief infrastructure failure. While operations have returned to their normal parameters, the incident underscores the vulnerability of microblogging networks to sudden, unannounced technical vulnerabilities that momentarily disrupt digital communication channels for users worldwide.
