Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party, the Janata Dal United, has reacted sharply to reports of rebellion among 19 Trinamool Congress MPs, including Saayoni Ghosh and Yusuf Pathan. JDU spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad on Thursday claimed that the developments showed the TMC had lost political ground and had no future.

Speaking in Patna on June 11, Prasad said the scale of dissent within the TMC was a sign of deep trouble for Mamata Banerjee’s party. He claimed that elected MLAs had already moved away from her leadership and formed a separate group, which, according to him, had also received recognition from the Assembly Speaker.

Referring to reports that several TMC MPs wanted to move towards the NDA, Prasad said the rebellion within the parliamentary party had made the situation clear. He said that when such a large number of MPs had sounded a note of revolt, it showed that the TMC’s political future was uncertain.

The JDU leader also responded to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks on the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kharge had accused the BJP of distorting history while discussing the length of prime ministerial terms, pointing out that Jawaharlal Nehru remained India’s longest serving prime minister, followed by Indira Gandhi.

Prasad rejected the criticism and said Prime Minister Modi’s years in office were before the people. He described Modi’s tenure as one of the most significant periods in India’s 77 to 78 years of post Independence history. He added that the people had repeatedly elected NDA governments under Modi’s leadership because they had accepted him.

The remarks come amid continued political speculation around the TMC after the Bengal election results. Reports of unrest within the party, possible defections and even merger speculation involving the Congress have kept Mamata Banerjee’s leadership under sharp scrutiny.

While the TMC has not issued a detailed response to every claim made by rival parties, the political commentary from JDU indicates that the NDA is closely watching the developments. The coming days will show whether the reports of rebellion lead to a formal shift in parliamentary alignments or remain part of the wider political pressure campaign against the TMC.
