New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking permission to lodge a formal complaint against senior party MP Kalyan Banerjee over alleged verbal abuse and misconduct inside Parliament. The development has brought fresh attention to the internal unease within the TMC at a politically sensitive time.

In her letter to the Speaker, Ghosh Dastidar alleged that Banerjee had repeatedly insulted her verbally inside the Lok Sabha. She said she wanted to file a formal complaint for redressal against the AITC Lok Sabha member. The Barasat MP also alleged that Banerjee’s conduct reflected a misogynistic attitude and claimed that similar behaviour had been seen towards several other women members.

Her letter has come shortly after she resigned from all organisational posts in the Trinamool Congress. Ghosh Dastidar, a four time MP from Barasat, wrote to party state president Subrata Bakshi requesting to be relieved of all responsibilities, including her post as national president of the party’s women’s wing. She, however, clarified that she was not leaving the party and would continue to work as a normal party worker.

According to report said that Ghosh Dastidar has also expressed concern over several issues within the party and the state, including the ration scam, alleged recruitment irregularities and corruption charges. She reportedly referred to the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College, saying the incident had deeply disturbed her.

She also raised questions over the growing influence of political strategy firm I PAC in the party’s organisational functioning, alleging undemocratic and non transparent interference. In recent days, she had also stayed away from several key party programmes, adding to speculation over her dissatisfaction with the leadership.

The complaint against Kalyan Banerjee and her resignation from party posts have come at a time when the TMC is already dealing with post election pressure, resignations and internal criticism. While Ghosh Dastidar has said she remains with the party, her latest move indicates a deeper conflict within the organisation.

For the TMC, the immediate challenge will be to manage the political fallout and respond to the issues raised by one of its senior women leaders. The matter may now depend on how the Speaker’s office handles the complaint and whether the party leadership intervenes to contain the dispute.
