New Delhi: A major aviation scare was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday night after an Air India flight from Bengaluru reported an engine fire warning moments before landing.

Air India flight AI 2802 was on its final approach to Delhi when the cockpit crew received a fire warning from one of the engines. According to the airline, the warning was later confirmed to be genuine. Following the alert, a full emergency was declared at the airport as safety teams moved into position.

The aircraft landed safely at around 9.30 pm on runway 29R. All 171 passengers on board, along with the crew members, were safely deboarded in a normal manner. The aircraft was later towed away from the runway after landing.

An Air India spokesperson said the crew followed all standard operating procedures and successfully landed the aircraft in Delhi. The airline also confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe.

The spokesperson further said that Air India has started a detailed investigation in coordination with regulatory authorities to find out the exact cause of the incident. The airline added that verified details will be shared publicly once available, and stressed that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.

The incident once again highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and quick response in aviation operations. While the fire warning created tense moments before landing, timely action by the cockpit crew and airport teams helped prevent a possible tragedy.
