Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has once again grabbed political attention, this time through poetry, after sharing a poem titled Brave in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The poem, posted on social media, quickly went viral and triggered widespread political discussion across the state.
The poem appeared to reflect Banerjee’s emotional and political state following the BJP’s historic victory in West Bengal, which ended the TMC’s 15-year rule in the state. Though she did not directly mention the election results in the poem, several lines hinted at resilience, struggle and determination in difficult times.
According to reports, Mamata Banerjee shared the poem while continuing her aggressive political stand against the BJP and the Election Commission. Since the declaration of results, the TMC supremo has repeatedly alleged that the election outcome was influenced by conspiracy and irregularities, claims strongly rejected by the BJP.
The poem drew mixed reactions on social media. Supporters described it as a reflection of Mamata’s fighting spirit and emotional connect with party workers, while critics called it an attempt to shift focus from the electoral setback. Political observers, however, noted that Banerjee has often used literature, paintings and poetry as tools of political communication throughout her career.
The political atmosphere in West Bengal remains tense after the BJP secured a massive mandate in the Assembly polls and formed its first government in the state under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Despite the setback, Mamata Banerjee has continued to project herself as a key opposition voice against the BJP at the national level.
