Ranchi: Former India captain MS Dhoni has added another remarkable achievement to his name — this time away from the cricket field. Despite retiring from international cricket years ago, Dhoni has emerged as the highest individual taxpayer across Bihar and Jharkhand for the financial year 2025-26.
According to senior Income Tax Department officials, the combined tax collection from Bihar and Jharkhand touched nearly ₹20,000 crore during FY26, with Jharkhand alone contributing around ₹12,000 crore. Officials confirmed that Dhoni topped the list of individual taxpayers across both states.
Reports suggest the former Chennai Super Kings captain paid over ₹50 crore as advance tax during the last financial year, though authorities have not officially disclosed the exact figure. His earnings reportedly come from multiple business ventures, IPL contracts, brand endorsements and investments across sectors such as technology, agriculture and startups.
Even after stepping away from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni remains one of India’s biggest sporting brands. Apart from playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, he has invested in several companies including drone startup Garuda Aerospace, automobile platforms and fitness ventures.
Income Tax officials also revealed that major public sector companies such as Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and CMPDI were among the top corporate taxpayers in the Bihar-Jharkhand region. Around 70 per cent of the total tax collection reportedly came through Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).
Dhoni, popularly known as “Captain Cool” and “Thala,” continues to enjoy enormous commercial value even at 44. For many fans, his latest achievement proves that while his international cricket career may have ended, his influence in business and public life remains stronger than ever.
