Madhyagram: In a chilling escalation of Bengal’s post-poll bloodshed, Chandranath Rath, the personal secretary and constant “shadow” of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was brutally gunned down late Wednesday night. However, what has truly taken the state’s fiercely polarized political landscape by surprise is the immediate and forceful reaction from the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The terrifying sequence unfolded when Rath’s car was suddenly intercepted on the streets of Madhyamgram. According to reports, the assailants targeted him directly, firing a fatal bullet that pierced the left side of his chest and shattered his heart. As the grim news broke, a devastated Suvendu Adhikari and several local BJP heavyweights rushed to the crime scene in the dead of the night.
In a rare departure from the usual political mudslinging, the TMC took to social media to unequivocally condemn the assassination. “We want strict action in this incident. A court-monitored CBI investigation is being demanded. Justice should be delivered without delay,” the party declared. Asserting that violence and political killings have absolutely no place in a democracy, the TMC urged authorities to track down and arrest the culprits immediately.
While demanding justice for Rath, the TMC also used the platform to highlight their own recent tragedies. They reminded the public that three of their party workers had also lost their lives in the ongoing post-election clashes, alleging that BJP-backed goons have been unleashing violence over the last three days.
As Madhyamgram remains heavily guarded and on edge, this high-profile assassination—coupled with the unexpected cross-party demand for a central inquiry—marks a dramatic and tense new chapter in Bengal’s volatile political narrative.
