New Delhi: In a game-changer for India’s telecom scene, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has finally jumped on the eSIM bandwagon, joining heavyweights like Airtel, Jio, and Vi (Vodafone Idea).

Rolled out initially in select circles such as Tamil Nadu, this digital SIM upgrade promises a clutter-free future for smartphone users, eliminating the hassle of physical cards altogether.

Think of eSIM as your phone’s built-in secret weapon – it mirrors a traditional SIM’s prowess but lives digitally inside devices like iPhones, Google Pixels, and the Samsung Galaxy S series. No more fumbling with tiny trays that snap or get lost; it’s tamper-proof and always ready. The catch? If you accidentally delete it, your connection disappears instantly.

Why make the switch? It’s eco-friendly, secure, and perfect for globetrotters juggling multiple numbers. Jio users can request an eSIM through the MyJio app or by visiting a store, while Airtel and Vi users can send an SMS to 121 or 199 with the word “eSIM” or use their respective apps. BSNL loyal customers are kindly requested to visit a customer service centre for KYC with your Aadhaar, as there are no shortcuts available.

After submitting your request, you will receive a QR code via email. Dive into Settings > Mobile Networks > Add eSIM, scan the code, and brace for a verification call. The whole shebang? The entire process takes less than four hours. Post-activation, your old SIM deactivates automatically, but TRAI’s anti-fraud rule blocks SMS for the first 24 hours – a small price for peace of mind.

As BSNL eyes a pan-India push amid its 4G blitz, this eSIM surge could redefine connectivity.
