Kejriwal Accuses Haryana Of Water Contamination; Saini Hits Back With Defamation Suit

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini plans to file a defamation lawsuit against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ahead of Delhi Assembly elections. Haryana authorities have received vehement opposition from BJP leaders following Kejriwal’s accusation that toxic waste flows from industrial sites, leading to the “poisoning” of the Yamuna River.

At a news conference, Kejriwal claimed death from toxic Yamuna river water could devastate Delhi’s population. According to Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Jal Board vigilance successfully blocked contamination from Yamuna waters, preventing danger to the city’s drinking water resources. The party leader declared that Delhi would experience “mass genocide” in case polluted water entered the city.

Chief Minister Saini rejected Kejriwal’s baseless political statements by describing them as unsubstantiated. The minister emphasised to Kejriwal that instead of accusations, “He talks about ammonia… but there is no scarcity; there is an issue in the distribution system,” he should concentrate on running his government. Saini officially challenged Kejriwal to dispatch his top government official to test Sonipat water quality near Yamuna’s entrance into Delhi.

Haryana’s minister Shyam Singh Rana agreed with CM Saini that AAP officials should independently test water quality before they make allegations. The Haryana government has issued multiple statements denying corruption, as Saini explained that Kejriwal used false allegations before disappearing. Similar statements emerged from BJP leaders, who accused the CM of deliberate misinformation.

Shilpa Shinde, who leads the Delhi Jal Board, dismissed Kejriwal’s statements as incorrect facts that damaged Delhi-Haryana relations. According to Shilpa Shinde, such baseless claims could drive unsuspecting residents to experience excessive worry.

Before the upcoming elections, the BJP intends to file a written complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding Kejriwal’s controversial statements. The forthcoming election has brought intense political tension because the parties face each other in their bid for political power.
