Mumbai: In the early hours of Thursday, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was brutally attacked in his Bandra residence when he was trying to foil an attempted burglary. The actor underwent six stab wounds from the assailant, who remains unknown.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. when Khan’s youngest son, Jehangir, was in bed. The first person to encounter the assailant was Arima Phillips, Lima, who is the child’s nanny and who lives nearby. However, when questioned about his intentions, the intruder is said to have demanded one crore rupees.
The situation worsened as both Khan and the intruder rushed at each other, which led to a physical altercation. Khan was left with deep wounds to his spine, neck, and hand in the scuffle. The sharp weapon used in the attack broke into a piece of it, and a piece of it was plunged into the actor’s spine, needing immediate surgery.
Shortly after the attack, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khan’s elder son, who lives on the eighth floor of the same building, was alerted. However, their car was not around, and as soon as he did that, his father was transported to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
After she had received medical treatment, Phillips, who was also injured in the incident, gave her statement to the Bandra police, according to reports. Recalling the harrowing experience, she said she assumed the intruder was Kareena Kapoor Khan checking her son.
A man aged between 35 and 40 brandished a sharp weapon at the National Lottery retailer, threatening him and demanding a large sum. It raised the alarm to other staff, who went to confront Khan.
The police continue investigations, and authorities are working to identify and arrest the attacker. The incident has raised serious questions about security in the upscale Bandra area, which is packed with Bollywood celebrities.
