NewDelhi: The political buzz in Delhi is over the free schemes of the government, as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi have been slammed by Youth Congress for framing incorrect allegations over free schemes. The Delhi Youth Congress then filed a memorandum at the Parliament Street police station on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
Delhi Youth Congress President Akshay Lakra said their workers and legal men approached the police to file a case against Kejriwal under Sections 316 and 317 of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and fraud. However, he took exception to the AAP’s promises, saying that unlike the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, which met its commitments, the AAP is letting them down.
Telangana’s Chief Minister has apparently done the free bus travel for women, and there were notifications in Delhi around it to clarify that there is no such thing. ” Public awareness, he added, is needed, and that they will walk the ground to teach people about these issues.
Said Advocate Mohit Tanwar of the Youth Congress’s legal team that they are charging them for cheating and forgery under sections 316 and 317. In that, he also accused AAP of collecting personal information from citizens without proper authority to make their cards for schemes.
Youth Congress Vice President Ashidullah Khan told AFP they raised doubts over the AAP’s procedures in terms of ‘how they are going to deal with citizens’ identities and data.’
The complaint comes the same season as tensions rise politically with Delhi about ready for polls. The government departments had recently published public notices stating that types of schemes that offer financial support to women are not officially notified, and the AAP had just announced schemes of such promise.
The AAP’s initiatives, the Delhi BJP has also criticised, saying they are misleading citizens. BJP leaders have demanded that Chief Minister Atishi explain why these alleged schemes exist and what their legal basis is.
This controversy comes as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of elections during which debates continue about transparency and accountability in governance. It’s symptomatic of concerns across Delhi on how promises are being handled politically.
