NewDelhi: The air pollution, in Delhi has been dangerously high for a week now; this Tuesday morning saw an Air Quality Index (AQ I ) of 488 – the highest this season far. In places like Anand Vihar the air quality index has hit 500 showing pollution levels. The Central Pollution Control Board ( CPC B ) reported that areas such, as Alipur, Ashok Vihar and Jahangirpur i recorded AQ I values of 500 indicating air quality.
In light of this situation the Delhi administration has put into effect GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) Level 4 to address the impact of pollution; however noticeable progress has yet to be observed. Officials have declared that 10th and 12th grade classes will transition to platforms starting Tuesday. The Delhi Chief Minister Atishi verified through media that, in person classes are halted until further updates are provided.
Delhi University has stated that online classes will continue until the 23rd of November before transitioning to, in person sessions on the 25th of November as scheduled exams and interviews move forward without any changes, in the plan.
City health professionals have expressed concerns, about the dangers posed by the air. Recommended that individuals reduce their time outside and drink plenty of water while also considering the use of air purifiers equipped with HEPA filters for safety measures. Dr.Rajat Sharma from Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital stressed the importance of wearing N95 masks as a precaution against health risks, for all individuals of their health status and highlighted that surgical or cloth masks may not offer sufficient protection.
The growing need, for air purifiers and masks indicates the worsening situation at hand as per Vijender Mohan from Air Expert India, in Indirapuram—he mentioned that sales of air purifiers have doubled amidst the escalating pollution levels.
Dr Ujjwal Parakh, from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital recommended that people should close their windows and doors to reduce pollution levels effectively He emphasized the significance of staying hydrated and taking medication regularly for those with respiratory problems He mentioned that although N95 and N99 masks provide protection against particulate matter they do not offer defense against harmful gases such, as ozone or nitrogen dioxide
