Trump Warns Putin: Do Not Provoke Conflict In Ukraine During Crucial Phone Conversation

Florida: In the post-election environment, the ex-US President Donald Trump has reportedly spoken to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and asked him to avoid further provocation in the Ukraine crisis. According to the sources, the two leaders discussed the current situation in Ukraine and Trump urged Putin not to escalate the conflict.

Trump spoke with Putin on the phone on Saturday from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida; he stressed the need to reduce tensions in Ukraine and referred to the US military capabilities in the European continent. According to the sources, Putin agreed to the idea of entering into a deal to calm ties between the United States of America and Russia and also focus on the issue of the crisis in Ukraine.

Before that phone call with Putin, Trump had a conversation with the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday. Trump, another Republican leader, has earlier harshly criticized the level of American support in terms of money and weapons to Ukraine and vowed to bring the conflict to an early end. It comes as Trump pushed for the enhancement of the relations between the U.S. and Russia, which was also stated by Putin.

In a public forum held in Sochi last week, Putin gave his view on the possibility of talking to Trump and said, “Do not think it is wrong to have a conversation with Trump. If some world leaders want to return to dialogue, I don’t oppose that. We are willing to speak with Trump,” he said. He also stressed that he was ready to restore the relations with the United States and to participate in the solution of the Ukrainian crisis, pointing out that the position of Trump should not be overlooked.

Putin went further and called Trump a courageous man and pointed out that Trump remained calm after an assassination attempt on him in July. The Russian president said that Trump’s tenacity impressed him.

At the same, on 8 November during the call with Zelensky, Trump reaffirmed his support for Ukraine. In a conversation on the matter, Trump did not detail his precise strategy, though. Zelensky extend his congratulate to Trump for his victory in the election and look forward for further more cooperation. Meanwhile, tech billionaire Elon Musk also spoke virtually with Zelensky and assured the Ukrainian president that the Starlink satellite internet connections will remain unhindered in Ukraine.

In a press release, President Zelensky thanked the president for his efforts during the campaign and said he was impressed by Trump’s crew. Thus, Zelensky stressed the significance of preserving the communication channel and agreed with further development of the relations between the United States and Ukraine, specifying that “A strong and reliable American partner is vital for the stability and the fair peace in the world.”
