Delhi’s Alarming Air Quality: Chief Justice Stays Indoors For Health Reasons!

New Delhi: As disturbing studies show that the air quality in Delhi has declined, the country’s Chief Justice, D.Y.Chandrachud has been frank enough to admit that he is no longer going for his morning walks. In an interview with the media, Justice Chandrachud said that while his doctor advised him to do morning exercises, he felt it safer for him to stay indoors much to the current air conditions.

Justice Chandrachud said, “since 24 October or that we have not been able to go for morning walks.” With that, it is now necessary to close the doors, as pollution becomes an increasing threat to the population’s health, particularly to the respiratory system.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remains at alarming levels, with several areas in the city, such as Anand Vihar, reaching AQI levels above 400—categorised as “severe.” The general AQI in Delhi is 295 which shows that the people of Delhi are exposed to life threatening quality of air. For about two months since the Dussehra festival, the air quality in Delhi has remained terrible; the city has been enveloped in a smog.

Justice Chandrachud who is set to retire in early November said that he was concerned over how air pollution was interfering with most activities and the general health of people. As air pollution has started raising its terrible bar, Delhi-NCR has been enveloped in smog, which has impacted public activities.

This is why Delhi smog illustrates how serious things are when it comes to finding proper solutions with the issue of pollution. While the authorities are trying to find those solutions it becomes obvious every day that the stronger measures to shield people’s health and enhance their quality of living are needed.
