Mumbai: CID, one of India’s longest-running and most popular television shows, remains beloved by fans years after it went off air. The crime drama, which aired from 1998 to 2018, entertained audiences for two decades, delivering gripping storylines and iconic dialogues. Despite its success, the show was unexpectedly taken off air, leaving fans disappointed and demanding its return. Shivaji Satam, who portrayed the iconic role of ACP Pradyuman, recently shed light on the reasons behind the show’s closure.
In an interview with Friday Talkies, Shivaji Satam revealed that a conflict between the show’s creators and the Sony TV channel led to its untimely end, despite its consistent performance and popularity. According to Satam, while the show’s TRP had experienced a slight dip, this was not unusual for long-running series. However, the ongoing dispute between the channel and the show’s makers became a decisive factor.
“We often questioned why the channel decided to end CID. Our show was as competitive as Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Yes, there was a minor drop in TRP, but which show doesn’t experience that? CID always aired at 10 pm, but the channel began pushing it to later slots—sometimes 10:30 pm, even 10:45 pm. Naturally, fewer people started watching it,” Satam explained.
The actor also touched upon the loyalty and friendship between the cast and the show’s creators. He expressed that the channel’s desire to change the makers conflicted with the bond the cast shared with them. “It wasn’t just about loyalty; it was about friendship. We grew together over 20 years, and the show’s closure felt forced,” he added.
Alongside Shivaji Satam, actors like Dayanand Shetty (Inspector Daya), Aditya Srivastava (Inspector Abhijeet), and Dinesh Phadnis (Inspector Fredricks) became household names for their roles in the iconic series.
