New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued strict directives to several states in response to the sluggish pace of its national membership campaign. The party’s high command has called upon state leaders to expedite the membership drive and urged its MPs and MLAs to take the initiative seriously to meet established targets.
To enhance accountability, state units have been instructed to submit daily reports from workers responsible for ensuring the success of the membership campaign at district, mandal, and booth levels. This will help the party gauge how many individuals have been contacted and how many new members have been recruited.
The BJP leadership is particularly dissatisfied with the membership drive’s performance in states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Odisha. Reports indicate a lax approach among party units in these regions, resulting in a slower rate of new memberships.
In response, the BJP high command has set ambitious goals for these states, instructing them to aim for the addition of 3 lakh members daily. Currently, the party is adding between 20 to 25 lakh members each day, but the target has been raised to 50 lakh daily to achieve the overall objective.
To boost these efforts, the BJP plans to launch three major campaigns before October 15. The first campaign is scheduled for September 25, followed by the second on October 5 or 6, and the third on October 13 or 14. During these campaign days, the party aims for state units to collectively recruit 2 crore new members.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the BJP’s national membership drive on September 2, and so far, the campaign has seen the addition of over 4 crore new members. The party has set an ambitious goal of enrolling more than 10 crore new members this time around.
