Badlapur: Akshay Shinde, the primary suspect in the Badlapur rape case, was killed during a police encounter while being transported from Taloja jail to Badlapur. The incident, which has raised questions about police procedures, is currently under investigation following the registration of an FIR.
According to police reports, Shinde was being escorted in a police jeep when he managed to snatch a revolver from Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More. As he fired three rounds at the officers, one bullet struck Inspector More in the thigh. In response, police returned fire, fatally wounding Shinde with a shot to the head.
The encounter occurred around 6:30 PM on Monday, shortly after Shinde had been taken into custody in relation to a new case filed by his wife. The police jeep was near the Mumbra bypass when the confrontation erupted.
Despite immediate medical attention at a local hospital, Shinde was pronounced dead on arrival. The body will undergo a post-mortem examination at JJ Hospital to determine the precise circumstances of his death.
