Hyderabad: Famed Telugu choreographer Jani Master, known for his work on blockbuster films like Baahubali and Pushpa, finds himself in the centre of a storm as serious allegations of harassment have come to light. A 21-year-old woman, who previously worked with the renowned dance director, has accused him of sexual misconduct, leading to his arrest by the Hyderabad police.
According to NDTV, Jani Master was detained after an FIR was filed on 16 September at the Raidurgam police station in Hyderabad. The Special Operation Team (SOT) of Cyberabad police apprehended him in Goa, where he was reportedly preparing to leave the country. The arrest followed claims made by the woman, who alleged that Jani had been harassing her and pressuring her for marriage.
The woman also stated that on 17 August, she received threats from unknown individuals. On 28 August, she was further intimidated by a note that congratulated her on a song but warned her to be careful. She also accused Jani Master of physically assaulting her, recounting an incident where he allegedly smashed her head into a mirror.
India Today reports that the Hyderabad police took swift action following the complaint. Jani Master, who was in Goa at the time, was arrested and taken back to Hyderabad. The Hindu also corroborates that the woman has filed a complaint against him for sexual harassment.
This is not the first time Jani Master has faced accusations. In June, a man named Satish filed a case claiming that he had been denied work due to Jani’s influence in the industry—claims which Jani has categorically denied.
The renowned choreographer is set to appear in court on 20 September to face the charges. According to Times Now, Jani had plans to flee the country, but authorities intercepted his departure in time.
Jani Master has worked with some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including stars like Thalapathy Vijay, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, and Salman Khan. He has choreographed popular songs like Seeti Maar, Butta Bomma, and Srivalli, and recently worked on the hit song I Nahi from the upcoming film Stree 2.
As the investigation continues, the film industry and Jani Master’s fans are left in shock, with many awaiting further developments in the case.
