Rahul Rallies for Rae Bareli Justice: Dalit Murder Sparks Outrage

Rae Bareli: The case of the murder of a Dalit youth in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked growing political tension, with the Congress party strongly criticising the state government. On Tuesday (20th August), Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited the grieving family of the victim in Nasirabad, within his parliamentary constituency.

Addressing the media after meeting the family, Gandhi expressed his outrage over the incident, stating, “All the people here are demanding justice because a Dalit youth has been murdered. The entire family has been threatened, one person has been killed, but no substantial action is being taken.”

Gandhi further criticised the local police, alleging that they are focusing on minor arrests while allowing the main culprit to remain free. “The SP here is not targeting the mastermind, only arresting smaller individuals. I want every section of society in Uttar Pradesh to be respected and receive justice. We will not back down until this family gets justice,” he asserted.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai, who accompanied Gandhi, told PTI that the Congress leader arrived at the Amethi airport around 1 pm before heading to Nasirabad. He was joined by other senior Congress leaders, including the party’s national general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh affairs, Avinash Pandey, and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari.

The incident in question occurred on 11th August in the Salon area, where a 22-year-old Dalit youth named Anuj Pasi was allegedly shot dead following a dispute with some locals. So far, police have arrested six suspects in connection with the case.

The Congress party’s visit and strong words signal an escalating political battle over the issue, as the demand for justice intensifies.
