Patna: Manish Verma, a former IAS officer and additional advisor to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has been entrusted with a significant role within the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]. The JD(U) national president, Nitish Kumar, has appointed Verma as the party’s national general secretary. Verma’s recent induction into the JD(U) highlights this new responsibility.
Manish Verma is the second IAS officer after RCP Singh to be chosen by Nitish Kumar. Verma initially worked closely with Nitish Kumar in his capacity as an officer before transitioning into the party. RCP Singh, who was once seen as Nitish Kumar’s potential successor, is no longer part of the JD(U). In the wake of Singh’s departure, Nitish Kumar has now assigned Manish Verma a crucial role within the party.
In a related development, the JD(U) National Executive meeting held in late June saw Sanjay Jha being appointed as the working president. The meeting also involved discussions on securing special state status or a special package for Bihar.
