Mumbai: Team India are looking invincible in the ODI World Cup.
Having won all their eight matches, the men in blue are assured of finishing on top in the round-robin league standings with a game in hand. And India’s complete dominance in the tournament is being reflected in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings.
In the latest ODI list released by ICC on November 8, two Indians are top of the charts — Shubman Gill in batting and Mohammed Siraj in bowling.
Classy opener Gill overtook Pakistan captain Babar Azam to take top spot among batters. Gill currently has 830 rating points, to be ahead of second-placed Babar (824).
The 24-year-old Gill became the second-fastest to attain No. 1 ranking — in 41 innings. Former Team India skipper MS Dhoni is the fastest to have got there, in 38 innings.
Gill, who missed the first two games of the World Cup because of dengue, has hit two half-centuries in 6 games. He is the leading run-scorer in ODIs and international cricket this year, and close to becoming the first batter to reach 2000 runs.
As for Siraj, the fiery pacer reclaimed the No. 1 ranking among ODI bowlers as Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi dropped from 1st to 5th. He has had a sensational year in ODIs, and picked up 3/16 against Sri Lanka last week.
Siraj apart, India have three bowlers in the top 10 — Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
