Rohtak: Three weeks ago, Pooja Sihag was celebrating on podium with a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham. But life took a horrible turn for the wrestler on Saturday night when her husband Ajay Nandal died under mysterious circumstances.
According to eye witnesses, a group of people were drinking alcohol near Maharani Kishori Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya when the incident took place.
It was learnt that Nandal was with three other men when he passed away. Two others – identified as Sonu and Ravi — are in critical condition.
Nadal’s father claimed a drug overdose involving Nandal’s friend Ravi led to his death.
Rohtak DSP Mahesh Kumar informed that Nadal’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
Police have begun investigation and are awaiting the post-mortem report.
Nandal, a resident of Garhi Bohar village in Haryana’s Rohtak, was also a wrestler and an Army officer.
The 25-year-old Pooja bagged bronze in 76kg freestyle category at CWG earlier this month after outplaying Naomi de Bruine of Australia 11-0 to clinch the third spot.
Pooja was also a bronze-medallist in the 2021 Asian Championships in Almaty and silver-medallist in the Asian U-23 Championships in 2019.
