New Delhi: Goa has become India’s first ‘Har Ghar Jal’-certified state, where all households have access to clean water through taps.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti also informed that Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu is the first union territory in the country to have achieved the goal.
The ministry said that people from all the villages have declared through a resolution, passed by Gram Sabha, that every household in all villages have access to safe drinking water through taps, ensuring that no one is left out.
All 2.63 lakh rural households in Goa and 85,156 in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu have access to potable water through tap connections, the ministry informed.
Last month, the Jal Shakti ministry had announced that Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh had become the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’-certified district in the country, where people from each of 254 villages had access to drinking water through tap connections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019. The target was to provide potable tap water supply in adequate quantity to every rural household of the country by 2024.
