India’s Omicron Cases Shoot Up To 1,270; New Variant Found In 23 States/UTs

New Delhi: India’s Omicron tally zoomed past the four-figure mark and shot up to 1,270 on Friday.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the highly-transmissible new variant of coronavirus has spread to 23 states and Union territories so far with Bihar reporting its first case.

Of the 1,270 Omicron-positive patients, 374 have been discharged.

The first Omicron-related death was reported from Pune on Thursday.

Maharashtra reported the maximum cases in the last 24 hours, taking its Omicron tally to 450, while Delhi has reported 320 cases till date.

India reported a total of 16,174 fresh COVID-positive cases as the number of infections rose for the third consecutive day. There were 220 COVID fatalities, while more than 7,500 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
