Tirupati: As many as 11 COVID patients died due to an interruption in oxygen supply at the renowned Ruia Hospital in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati on Monday, said Chittoor District Collector Harinarayan.
The district authorities said that the deaths are due to a five-minute delay in the arrival of an oxygen tanker at the medical facility. However, with the oxygen supply immediately restored, an even bigger tragedy was averted, according to the Collector.
Around 1000 patients are currently under treatment at the hospital. As soon as the oxygen supply got disturbed, patients began to choke. Doctors were seen attempting CPR procedures to revive the oxygen-starved patients while the kin of the patients were witnessed fanning with a cardboard piece to revive them, reported news agency IANS.
A probe has been launched into the incident. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who was apprised of the tragedy, has sought a report on the incident.
