Odisha To Benefit As Govt Waives 4 Months’ Rent For IT Units In STPI Centres

Bhubaneswar: There is good news for small units of the IT sector.

The Union government has decided to waive rent for small IT units which operate from Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) for a period of four months in the wake of the nationwide lockdown necesstitated by the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Union Law and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will provide rental waiver to IT units/startups operating from all STPI centres across India from March 1 to June 30, 2020.

STPI has 60 centres and sub-centres in different cities, including state capitals.

The facility at Bhubaneswar’s STPI centre, located at Fortune Towers, Chandrasekharpur, has a built-up space of 11,500 square feet.

Most of the companies operating from these parks are either tech MSMEs or startups.

The government’s decision will benefit 200 small & medium IT or ITeS units. The total cost of the rent waiver is estimated to be around Rs 5 crore.
