Odisha Govt Suspends ‘Tainted’ IAS Officer

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday suspended 2009-batch IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, who is currently serving as Director of Horticulture.

Earlier in the day, Upadhyaya was detained while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

Sources said vigilance sleuths caught the IAS officer red-handed while accepting the bribe money, which he had allegedly demanded for passing a bill.

The information was received as a part of the feedback mechanism of ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative and accordingly a trap was laid.

His house and other places were later searched by the anti-corruption officials, the sources added.
