Bhubaneswar: Odisha will be gripped with intense cold from January 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.
“The night temperature will have a steady fall from December 28 while most parts of of the state will come under intense cold wave from January 1,” the duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sudarshan Mishra, told the media on Tuesday.
Mishra informed that the dry weather will prevail in Odisha till December 25. On December 26, there will be light rainfall at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. There will also be rainfall in the north coastal districts as well as in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Angul on December 27.
The Met official also said that there will be shallow to moderate fog in some areas of North Odisha and in the southern districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Phulbani and Rayagada for 2-3 days till December 27.
According to the IMD’s Tuesday morning bulletin, the night temperature in the coastal districts witnessed a sharp fall.
The night temperature fell by 2-3 degree Celsius in Balasore (12.4), Chandbali (14.2), Cuttack (13.2), Paradip (16.4), Bhubaneswar (15), Gopalpur (17.9) and Puri (15).
In the interior and northern districts, the night temperature remained at 15 degree Celsius and below in Jharsuguda (13.4), Keonjhar (12.4), Sambalpur (15), Sundargarh (13), Angul (11), Baripada (13), Talcher (11.8), Koraput (12.6), Phulbani (12.5), Titlagarh (13.1), Sonepur (12.8) and Daringibadi (11.5).
