Bhubaneswar: Odisha cadre IPS officer of 2010 batch and Sambalpur SP, Kanwar Vishal Singh is among 25 state police officers who have been selected for the “Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal”.
While Additional SP Niranjan Sahu, Sub-Inspectors Manoj Pradhan, Gurudeb Karmi, Umesh Sahu and Hemant Nial have been selected for the award, the remaining 19 personnel including sergeants, havildars and constables will also receive the medal.
These personnel were involved in an anti-Maoist operation at Padua forests in Koraput district on May 8 this year in which five Maoists were killed.
Former Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had approved the institution of the Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal in January last year.
Police officers of states and Union Territories, Central Police Organisations (CPOs), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and security organisations involved in the special operations are eligible for the medal.
