Lucknow: In a massive crackdown on medical negligence and absenteeism in government-run healthcare facilities, the Uttar Pradesh Health Department has terminated the services of 26 doctors. The sweeping action was taken following direct instructions from Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak.
In addition to the dismissals, the department has also initiated strict disciplinary proceedings against nine other doctors accused of insubordination and dereliction of duty.
The terminated medical professionals were posted across various districts in the state, including Lucknow, Firozabad, Aligarh, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Mahoba, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Mirzapur, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, and Moradabad.
According to state health officials, the decisive action was finalized after a thorough departmental review of cases involving prolonged, unauthorized absences from duty and severe negligence in patient care. Prominent among those dismissed are Dr. Swadesh Kumar (Firozabad), Dr. Virendra Singh (Aligarh), Dr. Swati Vishwakarma (Ghazipur), Dr. Brijesh Yadav (Hardoi), and Dr. Manoj Kumar Chaurasia from the Civil Hospital in Lucknow.
“The primary responsibility of doctors posted in government hospitals is to provide timely and quality medical treatment to patients,” Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak stated. Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy towards medical apathy, he added, “Doctors remaining absent from duty or failing to fulfill their medical obligations will not be accepted under any circumstances.”
Furthermore, Pathak has directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) to pursue stringent departmental action against the nine doctors found flouting directives from higher authorities. This list includes Dr. Srinivas Yadav (Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Etawah), Dr. Sangeeta Chopra (Meerut), and Dr. Arvind Malik (Gautam Buddha Nagar), among others.
To ensure accountability moving forward, the Health Minister has instructed senior officials to conduct regular and rigorous inspections of doctors’ attendance across all state hospitals. The government has mandated strict monitoring of both Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) services to guarantee that patients do not face unnecessary hardships while seeking treatment. Authorities have warned that any future instances of negligence will attract similar punitive measures as per government regulations.
