Mumbai: Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma are now legally divorced, with the proceedings advancing to the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai on March 20, 2025. The couple tied the knot in December 2020 and separated in June 2022, seeking a mutual consent divorce in February 2025.
The Bombay High Court invoked Section 28(2) of the Special Marriage Act, allowing Chahal and his wife to forgo the traditionally enforced six-month cooling-off period between filing for divorce and the legal dissolution of their marriage, citing that Chahal needed to devote his time to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Chahal will pay Dhanashree Verma an alimony of Rs 4.75 crore, out of which he has already paid Rs 2.37 crore; the remaining amount will be paid after the divorce decree is issued by the court as per the settlement.
Chahal was first to arrive at the family court, which was away from the media glare, as he purposely appeared wearing a mask, while Verma arrived separately. The divorce ends their marriage of almost four years, which has been under the public spotlight since they began living separately.
